If you had to change a key moment in the history of Westeros during the Targaryen dynasty for the sake of increasing their grip on the Iron Throne, which would it be?

Assuming I have any interest in keeping the Targaryens on the Iron Throne (I absolutely do not), the key turning point of the dynasty was the Dance of the Dragons, not Robert's Rebellion or even the Blackfyre Rebellion. So I'm going to have to disregard the question details, because frankly they're 1. too limiting and 2. not really understanding why the Targaryens ultimately lost power in the first place. It started a long time ago.

So how to stop the Dance of the Dragons?
  1. Tell Viserys I to not remarry after his first wife's death, or at least, not to marry Alicent Hightower and her power-grabbing family.
  2. If he has to remarry, then Rhaenyra and Aegon should have been married to each other, even with the age discrepancy and even though they hated each other.
  3. If he wants to keep Rhaenyra as the heir, renew the lords' oaths that were sworn to her. He never did after the first time, and a lot of lords who had signed it ended up dying, with their heirs choosing to disregard the oath.
  4. Explain the outcome of the DotD (lots of dead people, dead dragons, dead kids and dead Targaryens) and see if they think it was all worth it. I'm guessing no.
