What is the most gruesome thing you've ever seen?
My brother's body. The mortician had done a fine job covering up the welt around his neck, but one eye was stuck not quite shut so that he seemed to be peering out from under one nearly-shut eyelid. Though what remains most with me is the tactile memory of placing my hand on his arm, so hard and so cold.
