Given that Donald Trump ruthlessly bullied his way to the presidency, if he becomes a good president, does it make up for it? Would you forgive him?

First off, I despise Trump. Back in my Navy career, if we had a guy who never took responsibility for getting something, and always blamed somebody else, and couldn’t take any criticism without going off…we called him a whiner. Actually, we’d call him other things, too, but such terms don’t belong on Quora.

But by the definition above, Trump is a whiner. I hold precisely zero hope that he’ll be anything more than a mediocre president at best…and there’s a very good chance that he’ll be one of our very worst presidents. I sincerely hope he’s not the worst.

That said, if I’m wrong, stupidly wrong, and he turns out to be a good president, sure, I’ll forgive him.

I know that I can do that because I used to be a strong conservative. I happily voted for Reagan and Bush 41 (and to this day I think Bush 41 was a very good president), but it was my determination to be objective that convinced me that the GOP was going places that I didn’t want to go…and so I became liberal. So if Trump proves me wrong, I will admit it - I’d be a hypocrite not to, and I despise hypocrisy just as much as I despise Trump.
