I sat next to a Chatterbox. She was a married, mother of 4 kids.. apparently an executive at a manufacturing company.
I mean, some passengers kill time in the air with a good book. She preferred to tell me her life story. Her entire life story. A non-stop one-way conversation with no period, comma or question-mark.. Go figure.
I wish I had just given her the cold shoulder and slipped on my headphones right away. But I had already made the mistake of offering small talk while on the runway. Sigh.
The 4 hour flight seemed like a never ending flight. She started off from the time she was involved in an abusive relationship when she was a teenager to now living with an alcoholic husband with having to take care of four kids in her already fast paced career.
My mom’s advice for next time: Engage kindly for five or ten minutes, and then say, ‘duty calls’ and open your laptop or iPad, put on your headphones.”
