I don’t think many people do believe that. The checks and balances built into the system will restrict him in a number of ways. What most anti-Trump people are concerned about are less his powers than his attitudes and behavior. His overt racism will alienate many of America’s allies overseas — allies that, whether he and his supporters believe it or not, the USA needs. He shoots from the hip and lies constantly, and then when he’s called on it, shrugs it off or pretends he never said it. This may not matter to his supporters, but that doesn’t work in international diplomacy. People will remember. Nobody will trust him.
He has no idea how to get along with Congress, because all he knows about leadership is shouting at people and suing people. A president cannot do either to Congress.
Domestically, he will achieve nothing; internationally, he will do more damage than George W. Bush, and that’s saying something.
